A HOME FULL OF POSSIBILITIES

Elegant Canarian manor house with Atlantic views, a large productive garden, bodega, garage / workshop and an additional dwelling with renovation potential

MI CASA EN LA PALMA invites you to discover a spacious home where traditional island architecture, craftsmanship and an exceptional sense of space come together to create a character all its own.

A property that reveals itself little by little

Some houses impress with perfection. This one moves you with its personality. Beyond the vivid blue façade lies a richly layered ensemble of generous rooms, a striking staircase, patios, balconies, sheltered terraces, garden levels and traditional outbuildings.

Mulberry and traditional tea wood from Canary Island pine, natural stone, Canarian tiles, handmade furniture and warm colours shape the atmosphere. Yet the house never feels like a stage set: it has been lived in and shaped over many years into a place with an unmistakable character.

THE MAIN HOUSE

Ground floor – living, welcoming and enjoying time together

The lower level, measuring 180.62 m², is the social heart of the house. From the inviting south-facing veranda that forms the entrance to the light-filled sitting room and the broad stair hall with its substantial timber construction and seating nook beneath the stairs, every detail reflects the individuality with which this home was conceived.

The generous living and dining area combines exposed natural-stone walls, warm timber-beamed ceilings and numerous windows. A large fireplace becomes the focal point on cooler evenings. This level also includes a guest bedroom that would work equally well as a study or studio.

The rustic kitchen – a natural gathering place

On the opposite side of the house is the rustic outdoor kitchen with a large traditional masonry barbecue. Directly in front, an expansive covered terrace, beautifully finished with traditional tiles, opens towards the sea – a sheltered setting for long shared meals, family gatherings and evenings with friends. An adjoining room already has utility connections and can be completed as an additional bathroom.

Several access points lead from here into the garden. This allows the lower level to function largely independently if required – appealing for guests, multigenerational living or combining home and work.

Upper floor – light, privacy and far-reaching views

A broad, stately timber staircase leads to the upper level, measuring 135.22 m². From the central hall there is access to three bedrooms, the main kitchen, a pantry and two bathrooms. The large principal bedroom offers extensive storage in fitted wardrobes; the other two rooms are well suited as children’s rooms, guest bedrooms or studies.

The bright main kitchen is generously sized and designed for everyday living.

One bathroom has a shower; the second is a spacious bathroom with a whirlpool bath. The house’s distinctive design continues here too: colourful rooms, timber ceilings, crafted doors and thoughtfully selected details give each space an identity of its own.

From the upper balcony, the view crosses the Atlantic to Tenerife and La Gomera.

The large balcony and a further terrace extend the upper floor into the open air. On clear days, the view reaches across the Atlantic to the neighbouring islands of Tenerife and La Gomera – in the first light of morning and in the evening calm above the sea.

Terraces, garden and space for your own ideas

The house sits slightly below the upper level of the plot, giving it a pleasantly sheltered position. Around the building are several large terraces, a patio, covered seating areas and garden spaces with distinctly different moods – sunny and open, shaded beneath a pergola or protected from the wind beside the house.

The terraced growing areas produce figs, loquats, plums, avocados, guavas, walnuts and grapes, among other crops. Irrigation is supplied by the property’s own cistern and a regular allocation of irrigation water.

The ensemble is completed by a garage, currently used as a workshop, and a traditional bodega immediately beside it.

The second plot – a rare addition

The sale includes a second, separate plot measuring 532.72 m² according to the topographical survey. It contains an old building registered as a dwelling, with an area of 80.91 m². Its former layout comprised a large living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom.

The building currently requires extensive renovation and should not be regarded as ready-to-occupy accommodation. This is precisely where it adds particular value to the overall offering: following professional refurbishment, it could become a self-contained space for family, guests, a studio or a private retreat. Access is currently being cleared.

Traditional character, solid construction

The main house incorporates an older structure whose original date can no longer be established with certainty. In 2002 it was substantially extended in solid construction, deliberately respecting La Palma’s traditional architecture. Natural stone surfaces, traditional tiled roofs, timber ceilings — predominantly mulberry and partly tea wood from Canary Island pine — heavy timber doors, Canarian tiles and a total of 28 timber windows bring warmth, light and a strong sense of craftsmanship. Many pieces of furniture were made specifically for the house and are included in the sale.

Between countryside and sea

Tirimaga belongs to the municipality of Villa de Mazo and this property lies at approximately 610 metres above sea level. The climate is mild and, thanks to the house’s sheltered position, its immediate surroundings often feel warmer and less windy than more exposed locations at the same elevation.

Villa de Mazo’s historic centre is around five minutes away by car. The airport is approximately 18 minutes away and Santa Cruz de La Palma around 20 minutes.

Access is via a paved lane, and several parking spaces are available beside the house.

The property has mains electricity and water as well as fibre-optic internet.

The LP-206, lightly trafficked along this stretch, runs along the upper boundary of the plot, while the main rooms, terraces and garden areas sit lower down in a sheltered position.

In summary

This property is for people who are not looking for an off-the-shelf house, but for a home in which La Palma’s traditional island architecture remains alive. It offers room for a large family, several generations, living and working under one roof, or a creative life project – all combined with sea views, a garden, an artisanal atmosphere and the potential of a second dwelling.

For anyone who values generous rooms, authentic materials and La Palma’s individual way of living, this is a property that simply cannot be replicated.
