WHAT'S AROUND THE CORNER?
=> Puntagorda
PUNTAGORDA is located in a charming, gently sloping hilly landscape, which is mainly covered with almond and pine trees.
The municipality is bordered to the north by the Hizcagua ravine, which separates it from the municipality of Garafía, and to the south by the Barranco de Garome ravine, which borders Tijarafe. The cliffs around the mouth of the Barranco de Hizcagua gorge have been declared a natural monument.
Tips:
Almond Blossom Festival: Depending on the blossom, the ‘Fiesta del Almendro en Flor’ almond blossom festival is celebrated in Puntagorda every year at the end of January/beginning of February. You have to see this pink and white carpet of blossoms!
Here you can also try salted almonds and other products made from almonds... not to mention the local wine!
La Iglesia de San Mauro Abad: This wonderful old church from the 16th century is located directly on the Barranco de San Mauro gorge with a magnificent view of the sea and is surrounded by eucalyptus trees.
El Pino de la Virgen: The pine tree is over 6 metres tall. A small image of the Virgin Mary is embedded in the trunk, a place of worship for all the inhabitants of Puntagorda.
El Mirador de Miraflores: From here you have a panoramic view of the two districts of El Pino and El Pinar. You must come here when the almond trees in the valley are in bloom and a white blanket covers all the trees!
El Mirador de Los Dragos: A huge, symbolic dragon tree dominates this viewpoint, which offers a magnificent view of the El Roque gorge and is passed by an old royal road.
Mercadillo del Agricultor de Puntagorda: In Puntagorda, the farmers' market opens its doors every Saturday and Sunday in a hall opposite the El Fayal leisure complex. It offers everything from fruit and vegetables, often organically grown, to cheese, wine, bread and mojos, as well as homemade pastries and sweets.
But if you're looking for pottery, embroidery, leatherwork or jewellery, you'll find it here too!
Fiestas: In the second half of August, celebrations are held in honour of San Mauro Abad, the patron saint of the municipality.
La Playa de Poris de Puntagorda: Small but beautiful. The bay at the foot of the cliffs consists mainly of rocks. Remote, secluded and perfect for explorers!
Restaurante Jardín de los Naranjos: Rustic restaurant specialising in Palmerian dishes. Plentiful and delicious!
Restaurante Parrillada Pino de la Virgen: Typical hearty Canarian home cooking, such as stews or various types of grilled meat.
...and much more!!!
